You're Nobody Until Somebody Kills You
or Why Dangerfield Have Slogan Shirts That Are Sometimes Amusing

so two posts in the one month is alright, right? that's a resolution keeping number, at least, i should think. i should think about other things.

this week has started at a reasonable speed, it's already 2am on a wednesday, and as soon as i wake up tomorrow it will be approaching mid week. despite this, i feel much more relaxed... working four days last week felt a little much. even when i'm away from work, aldi makes me strive to be efficient in the most mundane aspects of my life. in my poor little breaks i've started trying to get down the time it takes to make my vegemite sandwich. (if i complete the sandwich task in a few minutes i have time to read an article or raid the cupboards for museli (aldi has decent museli (but don't bother yourself with the organic stuff, there isn't nearly enough dried fruit to balance out the flavour of bland-oat.)))
these days i spend most of my shift on the tills, which i generally prefer - in recent weeks i've spoken to more of my regular customers. i even ran into one of them on the train today, he struck up a conversation with me saying "ahhh you're putting in those things (headphones), now you won't talk to me!". i will never shun the opportunity to listen to a stranger who is right in front of me in order to listen to a stranger who is not (even if the latter is bob dylan), and so we talked for a few stops, about teleprompting and his days as a singer. i also spoke to a woman briefly at central, because i gave up my seat for her and she said it was nice to see some manners. little does she know i have a rather selfish interpretation of karma, and that my act was merely an investment ensuring that someday when i am old (ha! what a thought) some ruffian will give up their seat for me. of course i didn't say this to her. i said "that's ok". and so will my ruffian, but i will wink at them knowingly, and they will scamper off, thinking "oh god she's on to me!", or else "what the fuck, fucking old people". the latter is more probable - i don't know how much longer people will believe in old age, it seems something only used stylistically in novels to stand for experience. or in horror movies to stand for freakishness. i watched Fear Dot Com with my sister this evening. woah, case in point for unjustified use of old people OTHER than them being scary cataract-having pointing-toward-drowned-corpses plot devices.
so back to my regular customers. most of them start the conversation with some variation on "your hair! it's normal coloured!", and so i've started asking them what they would prefer. most votes are for red, although i've had a couple of green requests. a woman with cutlery for earrings berates me every time she comes in, for not having dyed my hair back to red, so i might have to yield. cutlery for earrings!

so apart from working, i spent the weekend quite happily. we watched swing girls at film soc, before heading to jared's for campari (some kind of bile that passes itsef off as liquor) and some card games.
i was with megan on saturday night, which made up for not seeing her in the two days prior... we watched The Triplets of Belleville with my family (which was enchanting, please watch it) and were in love. sunday came with pancakes, some of them cooked with an interesting crunchy homemade blueberry jam. Harry, Jen, Mum and I went over to see the floors of Crystal Street - the building project my dad has been working on for at least the last six years. it's nearly finished, the official opening is on May 3rd, you're all invited! yes YOU. it's in Rozelle, which is pretty easy to get to by bus, and there will be wine when you arrive. my dad is even trying to get a critic along... the last draft of the invite he was writing went something along the lines of "behold! never in the history of western art has there been such a perfect union between traditional mediums and contemporary ideas!". the feat was credited to "four tall handsome gentleman". once we'd inspected the building we stopped by the Rozelle markets, which were impressively markety.
NOW i am working on essays.
that kind of brings me up to date... i might attempt a recap of some noteworthy early 2008 events, but not right now. i've been listening to a few great albums recently... the best of them is The Boxer by The National. i haven't been so instntly obsessed with anything since Regina Spektor.

love!
